Job Title: Senior Residential Activity Worker

Location: Based in Buxton (with satellite accommodations), opening in 2025

Salary: £26,972.40 - £28,189.20 annually (£13.30–£13.90 per hour)

Additional Earnings: Up to £6,765.12 annually from 9 sleep-ins per month (£62.64 per sleep-in)

Total Package Potential: Up to £34,954.32 per year

Shift Pattern: Full-time – 4 days and nights on shift, followed by 8 days off

Driving Requirements: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle essential

About the Role

Step into a leadership role as a Senior Residential Activity Worker, where you’ll combine your passion for outdoor adventure with the rewarding opportunity of supporting children and young people aged 8 to 18. As part of our specialised 12-week Activity and Intervention programme, you will lead adventurous activities such as kayaking, mountain biking, and rock climbing while providing hands-on therapeutically-informed care to young people facing significant life challenges.

You’ll be part of a close-knit team providing 2-to-1 support to children and young people, helping them grow and rebuild their confidence in a structured, safe, and enriching environment.

You will also play a key role in supporting the Service Manager and Deputy Managers in supervising the Residential Activity Workers and ensuring good practice within the service.

Key Responsibilities

Activity Leadership: Plan, organise, and lead a variety of outdoor activities, inspiring resilience and confidence in young people.

Direct Care: Build positive, supportive relationships with young people, helping them establish routines, manage emotions, and develop life skills.

Team Support: Work closely with the management team to maintain high standards of care, provide supervision and guidance to staff, and promote best practices.

Risk Management: Ensure all activities comply with safeguarding and health & safety regulations, maintaining a safe environment for young people and staff.

Mentorship: Act as a role model for young people, offering guidance in overcoming challenges and achieving personal goals.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications: Level 3 or above NVQ/QCF in Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.

Experience: Previous experience working with children or young people in residential care, adventure settings, or similar environments is required.

Skills: Strong leadership, resilience, and problem-solving abilities, alongside a passion for outdoor activities and working with young people.

Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence and access to your own transport are essential.

About Our Service
Our service is designed to provide emergency, crisis intervention placements, giving young people a chance to build confidence, learn new skills, and establish positive routines. Located in an Ofsted registered children’s home, the programme includes off-site temporary accommodation and adventurous activities. The 12-week programme provides a safe environment for young people to escape negative influences, manage risk-taking behaviour, and develop constructive coping strategies. As part of this approach, young people also have opportunities to gain qualifications and receive a structured education package.
