We’re looking for a dedicated Pastoral Teaching Assistant to join our supportive school. In this role, you’ll provide personalised support to students with special educational needs, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.
You’ll work closely with teachers to create a calm, inclusive environment that fosters student wellbeing, confidence, and independence, while also supporting their emotional and social development
About New Ways School
New Ways is an Outstanding Independent SEN School with two locations. Our KS3 students are based at our South Birmingham site (B38), while KS4 and KS5 students attend our college site in North Worcestershire (B60).
We cater to students aged 11-19 with special educational needs, primarily related to Autism.
Our school provides a safe, low-sensory environment alongside an ambitious curriculum that includes a range of GCSEs and enrichment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Mentor and support learners in the classroom, on home tuition, outreach, and through outdoor activities.
Assist with preparing learning materials and help deliver curriculum goals, focusing on behavioural management.
Provide daily progress reports, identifying barriers to learning.
Use trauma-informed practices to support students' emotional needs, ensuring they feel safe and supported.
Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to create a holistic approach to student development.
Foster positive relationships with students, working within an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) environment.
Provide pastoral care to address students' emotional, social, and academic needs, promoting respect and inclusion.
Implement behaviour management strategies to positively influence student behaviour and learning outcomes.
Requirements
- Passionate about helping students with SEND
- 2+ years of experience in a SEND setting
- Strong English and Maths skills
