Assistant SENDCo

We are seeking a truly special individual to join our team at Begdale as an Assistant SENDCo — someone who brings warmth, care and calm, alongside strong professional knowledge and a passion for inclusive education.

Begdale School are looking for someone who can offer reassurance, structure and kindness, while quietly and confidently ensuring that everything runs smoothly for our pupils with SEN.

This is a role for someone who believes that children flourish when they feel safe, understood and valued, and who can balance compassion with high expectations.

About the Role

You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, emotional wellbeing and personal development, working closely with the SENDCo, SLT, staff, families and external professionals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the learning, development and wellbeing of individual pupils, small groups and whole classes
  • Planning and delivering targeted interventions (e.g. Phonics, Literacy, SEMH, Metacognition), informed by educational research
  • Conducting assessments to identify learning needs and shape personalised support strategies
  • Tracking, monitoring and evaluating pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Creating a calm, nurturing, trauma-informed and therapeutic environment where pupils feel safe to learn
  • Supporting pupils to develop resilience, motivation and positive relationships
  • Promoting positive behaviour, inclusion and the academy’s values throughout the school day
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Working closely with the SENDCo to plan interventions and contribute to review meetings
  • Supporting the SENDCo in planning and delivering SEND training for staff
  • Adapting provision to ensure every pupil receives high-quality, personalised support that enables them to reach their full potential

 

Who We’re Looking For

  • Naturally kind, patient and emotionally intelligent
  • Experienced as a SEN Teacher
  • QTS/QTLS qualified 
  • Passionate about SEND and inclusive practice
  • Calm, organised and proactive — able to think ahead and respond flexibly
  • Confident in supporting both academic and emotional needs
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and research-informed practice
  • Willing to gain SENCO qualification
