Senior Children's Residential Activity Worker
Salary: £14.95 – £15.55 per hour (depending on experience & qualifications)
Hours: 39 hours per week – 4 days on, 7 days off, then 3 days on, 7 days off
Location: Gloucestershire GL5
Requirement: Full UK driving licence & access to a vehicle – essential
Purpose of the Role
To provide high-quality care, leadership, and positive role modelling to young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, while leading activity-based interventions that promote confidence, resilience, and personal growth.
About Keys Group – Activity & Intervention
This is a unique opportunity to combine residential care with outdoor adventure and leadership.
Based in an Ofsted-registered children’s home, you will support young people aged 8–18 through a structured 12-week Activity and Intervention Programme, designed to provide a break from challenging circumstances and create positive, lasting change.
You will live on-site during your working days (with accommodation and meals provided), delivering consistent, trauma-informed care alongside engaging outdoor activities such as kayaking, climbing, and mountain biking.
As a Senior Residential Activity Worker, you’ll play a key role in both supporting young people and guiding the staff team to deliver the highest standards of care.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build strong, therapeutic relationships with young people and provide consistent support
- Act as a positive role model, promoting structure, boundaries, and positive behaviours
- Plan, lead, and deliver outdoor activities such as climbing, kayaking, and hiking
- Support emotional wellbeing, helping young people build resilience and coping strategies
- Supervise, support, and mentor Residential Activity Workers
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing residential environment
- Work collaboratively with the team to deliver tailored care and activity plans
- Monitor progress and maintain accurate, up-to-date records
- Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour and crisis situations
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and regulatory standards
Requirements
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 (or higher) in Childcare – essential
- Previous experience working with young people in residential, care, or activity-based settings
- Aged 21 or over with a full UK driving licence
- Able to commit to the shift pattern, including on-site stays
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to support and guide a team
- Confident, resilient, and able to build positive relationships
- Passion for outdoor activities and adventurous environments
- Ability to work under pressure and act as a positive role model
- Right to work in the UK
