Pastoral Interventions Lead - Lexden Hall School, Lexden Road, Colchester, Essex, CO3 3NE

Salary: £28,288 - £33,249 | Full Time (37.5 hours/week)

Purpose of Role

To lead, develop and coordinate targeted academic intervention provision across the school, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based support that accelerates pupil progress in literacy, numeracy and other key areas. The role includes line management of Intervention Assistants, providing supervision, coaching and performance management to ensure high standards of delivery and consistent impact across intervention provision. 

This is a specialist leadership role focused on delivering measurable improvements in pupil outcomes through structured intervention, robust use of assessment, and ongoing evaluation of impact. It is not only a general classroom support role, but a position responsible for driving attainment through targeted, strategic provision.

At Lexden Hall School

Lexden will be shortly opening their doors! This will be a specialist SEMH and Autism provision for pupils across Key Stages 2 to 4, with a focus on those who have experienced school-based trauma, present with EBSNA profiles, or simply need something slightly different to help them reengage with education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Line manages Intervention Assistants, including conducting regular supervision sessions, providing coaching and professional support, and managing performance in line with school policies 
  • Lead performance management and appraisal processes, setting clear expectations and holding staff accountable for the quality and impact of their practice 
  • Monitor the quality and consistency of intervention delivery, ensuring high standards across the team 
  • Lead the development and implementation of high-quality, structured intervention  programmes in phonics, reading, numeracy and other foundational areas 
  • Ensure interventions are targeted, evidence-informed and aligned to pupil need, leading to accelerated progress 
  • Use assessment and progress data to identify trends, gaps and priority groups, ensuring effective intervention planning and resource allocation 
  • Monitor, assess and evaluate the impact of intervention provision, using pupil progress data to drive continuous improvement 
  • Ensure interventions are regularly reviewed and refined where progress is not sufficient
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure alignment between intervention provision and classroom learning 
  • Lead identification of pupils requiring additional support through MDT processes, ensuring timely, needs-led intervention 
  • Contribute to whole-school strategies to raise attainment, close gaps in progress and improve pupil outcomes
  • Promote a culture of high expectations, engagement and positive behaviour for learning across all intervention provision 
  • Model and embed best practice in teaching, professional conduct, relationships and emotional regulation 
  • Support staff to develop consistent, high-quality approaches to intervention delivery

Requirements

  • A level 4/5 qualification in either education/intervention
  • Relevant training in literacy, numeracy, or intervention programmes
  • Ability to manage performance and hold staff accountable for outcomes
  • Curriculum and assessment understanding at appropriate phase including effective baseline assessing
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities (KCSIE)
  • Experience of working in an SEMH school with SEND learners
  • Experience working as part of a team to support pupil progress
