Residential Support Worker - Children and Young People

Woolston, Southampton SO19

Salary £24,133- £25,755 (£11.90 - £12.70 per hour)

Plus - £62.64 per sleep-in (working approx. 2-8 sleep ins per month, an additional £1,700-£6,800pa)

Shifts include mornings, split shifts, afternoons/ evenings and weekends, with additional sleep-ins.

We are really keen to hear from Support Workers (full and part-time vacancies), ideally with experience of working with young  You will be supporting young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in their home in the Woolston area of Southampton. This location is ideal for drivers and those that use public transport, with great transport links within easy walking distance of the home (bus, train and cycle routes).

You will be required to complete a QCF Level 4 in Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Qualification within this role. To support you in achieving this qualification you'll become confident in attending meetings for the children you support, and carry out shift leading and Key Worker responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • supporting young people to develop their independent life skills - both in their home and out in the wider community, increase their social skills, gain greater independence with their personal care needs, develop new interests, and to attend education, whilst ensuring their home is warm, comfortable and clean.
  • You will support young people to make informed choices and decisions about their lives and the important people around them.

As a valued member of our team you will never have two days that are the same when supporting the young people living with us, within their home. The role can be quite challenging at times but the progress that our children and young adults show makes it all the more fulfilling, and with our hands-on managers always around you will always feel supported in your role, and confident to make the right decisions day to day.

At times the young people we support may find managing their emotions difficult and we extensively train all of our team to support them during these times. What we strive for, as a team, is looking at proactive ways to reduce these challenges and to give each individual bespoke strategies to regulate their emotions more effectively, and more independently.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualification in Children's Workforce QCF Level 3/4 Diploma is desirable
  • Experience with children or Adult care learning disabilities, Autism is highly desirable and beneficial. 
  • Ability to remain calm in sometimes difficult situations.
  • Resilience is key
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
