Quality of Education Governor

Job Opportunity: Quality of Education Governor (Freelance)
Location: Across a group of 25 schools (travel required)
Contract Type: Freelance | Approx. 68 days per year
Remuneration: Competitive daily rate + travel expenses (invoiced monthly)

Are you passionate about driving educational excellence?
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Quality of Education Governor to lead, monitor, and champion the quality of education across our network of 25 schools. This is a strategic, impactful freelance role suited to an education professional with a strong background in teaching, school leadership, or governance—especially with experience in special education.

About the Role

As the Quality of Education Governor, you will:

  • Oversee curriculum delivery, teaching and learning, and pupil progress across the group.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational practices and ensure compliance with the National Curriculum, Independent School Standards, and OFSTED expectations.
  • Analyse performance data to support school leaders in continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support professional development around pedagogy, curriculum planning, and assessment.
  • Foster collaboration across schools and with other governors, especially those focusing on safeguarding and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct school visits to observe teaching, speak with staff and pupils, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Review pupil performance data and prepare reports with strategic recommendations.
  • Support the implementation of best practices across all schools.
  • Deliver training sessions for staff to enhance curriculum planning and teaching quality.
  • Report directly to the Education Director and local governing bodies, providing regular updates and insights.

Meeting & Work Structure

  • Termly Meetings: Local governing bodies of each school (25 full days/year).
  • Data Reviews & Preparation: Termly analysis and planning (12 full days/year).
  • Annual School Visits: One visit per school each year (25 full days/year).
  • Staff Training: Lead on curriculum and pedagogy CPD (6 full days/year).

Total: 68 full days equivalent annually.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Background in education, ideally with experience in special education settings.
  • Strong understanding of educational governance and accountability frameworks.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data and identify trends in pupil progress.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build trust and credibility with school leaders and stakeholders.

Professional Development & Support

  • Access to ongoing training on OFSTED criteria, educational best practices, and governance responsibilities.
  • Opportunities to network and share knowledge with other governors across the sector.

Performance & Accountability

  • Clear performance metrics including pupil progress, teacher evaluations, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Annual review of the role’s effectiveness with adjustments made for continuous improvement.
