We are seeking a Special Educational Needs English Teacher to join our dedicated team in Barnsley, where we cater to the diverse needs of our pupils with SEND. The Role
As a SEND English Teacher, you will plan and deliver creative, inclusive English lessons to small groups of pupils. You will use trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches to engage students, focusing on their academic and social-emotional development. Your role will involve working closely with a supportive team of teaching assistants and professionals to ensure each student receives the personalised learning they deserve.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, evidence-informed English lessons tailored to pupils with SEND
Adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs, including students with trauma histories
Monitor progress and support pupils in achieving nationally recognised accreditations in English
Promote social, emotional, and academic development through trauma-informed methods
Foster pupil independence, confidence, and a love for learning
Collaborate with colleagues, families, and external agencies to support student success
Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, ensuring pupil safety and wellbeing
About You
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a SEND setting or similar provision
Strong passion for teaching English and supporting students with complex needs
Experience in teaching pupils with challenging behaviours and SEND
Knowledge of SEND, social-emotional learning, and safeguarding principles
Resilient, empathetic, and committed to making learning fun and accessible for all
Contract & Benefits
Salary: £27,456–£43,014 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Term Time Only: 40 weeks per year (September–July), including 10 mandatory training days
