Children's Support Worker

Job Title: Children’s Residential Support Worker - Learning disabilities

Location: Southampton

Salary: £26,364 - £27,783 per year PLUS additional £3,000-£6,000 per year for sleep-ins

Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week working a rolling shift pattern working earlies and lates / split shifts and sleep ins.

We are looking for a children's support worker to become part of our loving family home, caring for children and young people who have learning disabilities and some challenging behaviours. You would be the person to give encouragement and praise when needed, to be patient and understanding during times of crisis and to inspire them to grow and develop.

The role can be emotionally challenging and you could be handling difficult situations BUT you could be the person to change a child's life for the better.

What does the job involve?

  • Be part of a caring team that provides a safe and loving home for children, led and supported by a registered manager.
  • Act as a professional parent, to to give encouragement and praise.
  • Enjoy fun days out such as funfairs, swimming, meals out, cinema trips.
  • Provide emotional and physical support to allow the children to reach their full potential in sometimes challenging situations
  • Build friendships and trusting relationships
  • Help them to find pleasure in everyday tasks
  • Empower them to make decisions about themselves
  • Ensure a safe home environment, cleaning, laundry, cooking is part of the job.
  • Some personal care will be required as part of this role.

What do you need?

  • We want people who are naturally caring, flexible and resilient.
  • Passionate about supporting children to lead happy lives.
  • Great communication skills, positive and energetic.
  • Experience in young peoples care or transferable skills such as adult LD, SEN education.
  • Ability to remain calm during sometimes challenging situations.
  • Full UK Driving licence is preferred but not essential.
  • You need to be able to work flexibly in caring for the children. This will include working shifts and sleep-ins
